Bruce Gardner – Owner/Agent
Assisting and explaining insurance coverage has been a part of my business career for over 25 years. I have been working in the insurance industry since 1989, when I became licensed to provide life and health insurance policies. I have stayed in the industry because I enjoy what I do, and since I know and can explain insurance, it is easy for me to talk about coverages.
I hope people understand Bruce Gardner Insurance Agency wants to do a good job for them. I’m not pushy and will even pass up business if a client is going to be incorrectly covered. We put the client first, and we work to make sure you are correctly covered.
If you’re a client with us, you can expect for us to thoroughly explain your coverage. When we have a new client bring in his or her policy papers, we look at the coverage value and take the time to determine a current value to provide correct coverage. We won’t simply quote on the value given by the client’s current insurer. Instead, we do the work to ensure correct coverage.
Besides the insurance business, I also enjoy family time, like playing soccer with my son, William. My wife works at W&L in the Athletic Department as the men’s and women’s swimming coach. She teaches swimming and Red Cross lifeguard training too. We enjoy playing golf, kickball, and basketball, our two dogs, Daisy and Duke, and our latest project of building a tree house this summer.
Our family also enjoys Disney World and welcome questions from anyone about planning a Disney vacation. You’re never too old to be a kid!
The insurance industry has been my profession for over 10 years. I love to work with my clients to make sure they have proper insurance coverage and to save them money. It is important for me to share my knowledge with my clients and teach them what their policy really means.
In my time outside the office, I coach volleyball at Maury River Middle School and Rockbridge Junior Olympics. Believing in giving back to the community and teaching our children to work for what they get, I have been involved in several fundraising events to benefit local people in need through my work with volleyball.
Stephanie Petty – Insurance Agent
I’ve been selling insurance for more than 20 years and have experience in all lines of insurance. I am licensed to sell property, casualty, life, health, and annuities. I am also federally certified to sell long term care products and flood insurance.
Becoming an insurance agent was a natural progression for me. While I was employed as a receptionist at an insurance agency, licensing became the logical and practical next step, and I was excited about the opportunity I was being given. After passing the Property and Casualty Insurance License State exam, I was promoted to sales and service in the personal lines department of an independent agency.
As an insurance agent, I provide my clients with information and guidance that will benefit them for life, not just right now. My clients trust me and know I always have their best interests in mind.
The insurance industry has always provided a stable career for me, and I am thankful I was introduced to the field. That being said, my family is most important in my life. Camping with my husband is a regular and cherished activity, and my three children are home schooled. I am guided by faith and love to discuss theology and enjoy the subjects of science, history, law, and politics. I am an avid gardener and find working in my vegetable and flower gardens to be very relaxing and rewarding.
Our family also loves animals. We have four cats, two dogs, and around 40 chickens. We eat a lot of eggs!
Robin Heizer-Farris – Insurance Agent
I sold real estate in the 80’s and started Blue Ridge Properties Real Estate Magazine in September 1990; we’re just celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary! Also, I was the finance manager at Harner Wheels in Staunton, VA selling Nissans and Subarus in the late 80’s to early 90’s and working in finance and insurance.
With my backgrounds in real estate, finance, insurance and building (my dad was a developer and my husband is a contractor), it seemed like a natural tie-in for me to become an insurance agent.
Although I am a newly licensed agent, I am a Rockbridge County native, born and raised. So I know the area, the people, and our lifestyle and really enjoy working with people. I think I can bring a lot to the table with my professional experience and back it up with a knowledgeable staff and great, long-trusted company.
Bruce Gardner Insurance Agency is a wonderful asset to Lexington and Rockbridge County, offering individual, personal service to all our clients. Our office is small and comfortable, and Rockingham Group has a great reputation and is large enough to handle anything that comes up.
Outside of insurance and the real estate magazine, my husband and I attend and watch a lot of football games. Our youngest son played football at Virginia Tech and is trying to go pro, so we’re very involved in that process. I am also a gym rat, working out regularly, and a member of the YMCA. Zumba is my favorite class, but enjoy lifting weights, too.
My husband, Victor Farris, also a local, is a well respected painting contractor and great deer hunter. Our older son, Damien, is a nurse and a combat medic in the National Guard, attends Liberty University, and is married to Kara Aulbach, also a Rockbridge County native who graduated under and post-graduate from Liberty in accounting. Our younger son, Caleb, just graduated from Virginia Tech in December 2014 with a degree in Business and is engaged to Elizabeth Wright, also from Rockbridge, who just graduated from Radford in May with a Biology degree.
